White called Spurs 'ancient'; team went on to win NBA championship year later

SAN ANTONIO – A lot can happen in three years -- just ask the newest addition to the San Antonio Spurs' roster, Derrick White.

On Thursday night, the Spurs picked White with the 29th pick in the NBA draft. Just three years earlier, White had taken to Twitter to call the Spurs "ancient."

The tweet read, "The spurs are ancient and had lost like four in a row going into the playoffs."

Less than 24 hours after White had been drafted, a few Spurs fans found the tweet - giving the former Colorado point guard some grief for the old remarks. One Twitter user, however, set the rookie straight saying, "And then they went to the finals that year and won the title the next! Bring some youth and help win one for us next year #GoSpursGo #Rookie."

At some point between May 2, 2013, and Thursday, White had a change of heart, telling media, "(The Spurs) have great history and coach Popovich has done an amazing job there, and I just want to get there and join the Spurs way."
