Are you ready to show off your Fiesta pride?
San Antonio is trying something new for 2021 since there will not be a Battle of Flowers Parade and Fiesta Flambeau Parade — a PORCH PARADE!
The safe, virtual event is a city-wide decorating competition for homes, schools and businesses.
The event, which runs from April 23 to May 24, is a collaboration between the Battle of Flowers Association and San Antonio Fiesta Flambeau Parade Association, Inc., and is meant to encourage and support the spirit of Fiesta, safely. It marks the first time the two parade organizations have partnered.
KSAT joins the groups in calling on you to deck out your home, business or classroom with Fiesta colors and decor, and submit it on KSAT.com to enter to win prizes and, most importantly, Fiesta bragging rights. A total of 7 winners will be chosen.
The contest will culminate with a KSAT 12 Porch Parade Special that airs Friday, June 18 at 8 p.m., where the winners will be announced. The on-air special will feature a parade of decorated local homes, interviews with some of the winners, a celebration of Fiesta’s past and musical acts including Ava Max, A-J-R and the Black-eyed Peas. All performances and the Porch Parade will be seen on KSAT12, KSAT.com and all streaming devices where you can watch KSAT12.
KSAT will also broadcast “Fiesta Fiesta” on June 17 at 8 p.m. and the Texas Cavaliers River Parade on June 21 at 7 p.m.
“San Antonio deserves this huge Fiesta celebration and we’re so happy and proud to be the team to bring it to all of South Texas,” said KSAT 12 VP/GM Phil Lane.
“We’ve partnered with the Battle of Flowers Parade and the Fiesta Flambeau Parade to celebrate with a Porch Parade blowout never before seen in South Texas,” said Lane. “With help from “iHeart Radio’s 96.1 Now and Russell Rush,” they have been able to secure some amazing talent to help us celebrate Fiesta and we think the local audience will be thrilled.”
Porch parade basics
Decorate your front porch, apartment balcony or entire front yard depicting what the Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau Parades mean to you and your family.
Another way to put it: turn your porch, yard or balcony into a virtual parade float.
Businesses may also enter by decorating your storefront, lobby or showroom with your concept of a parade float.
And schools may enter, too. Show parade pride at your school’s entry, main hall or anywhere the spirit moves you.
How to enter the contest by submitting photos or a video
Take a maximum of three photos or short video (one minute or less) of your virtual parade float and submit it in the links above during the contest period Friday, April 23 to Monday, May 24.
Entries will be judged on the best use of lights, the best use of color, the best memory of a San Antonio street parade and most Puro San Antonio.
Selected contest entries in each category will appear in some of KSAT 12’s promotional spots and entertainment shows leading up to a one-hour television special that will air on KSAT 12 on Friday, June 18, 2021.
Your residence, business or school may be featured on the one-hour special showcasing the winners of the first City-Wide Porch Parade presented by The Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau Parades, the oldest and largest street parades highlighting San Antonio’s Fiesta celebration.
All winners will be announced on Friday, June 18 during the Fiesta special.
