SAN ANTONIO – Meaningful change rarely comes from one person doing everything. It comes from many people doing something.
This is the message behind the San Antonio Food Bank’s Hunger Action Month campaign called “Nourishing in Numbers.”
Throughout September, the campaign is calling on the community to help neighbors facing hunger by donating food or money, volunteering or speaking up about food insecurity.
The need is significant. The San Antonio Food Bank provides food and other resources to more than 100,000 people each week across 29 counties in Southwest Texas. Rising grocery and energy costs are putting additional pressure on families, making community support more important than ever.
“Together, we can fight hunger, and together, we can feed hope,” said Eric Cooper, president and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank.
Cooper said the campaign is about neighbors showing up for one another during a difficult time. Every contribution — whether it is food, time, money or advocacy — can help strengthen the community and move San Antonio closer to becoming hunger-free.
According to the latest data from Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study, Texas had the highest level of food insecurity in the nation in 2024. In the San Antonio Food Bank’s service area, one in five people and one in four children are considered food insecure.
This month, the call to action is simple: nourish in numbers. When individuals come together, small acts of support can create a powerful response to hunger.

KSAT Community phone bank
This September, turn one phone call, one donation, into a powerful step toward a hunger-free San Antonio ... pick up the phone and take action.
KSAT Community will host a phone bank benefiting the San Antonio Food Bank from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026. Every contribution made through the effort will directly support the Food Bank’s work to feed neighbors across the region.
A bag of groceries. An hour of volunteer time. A financial gift. A conversation that leads someone else to help. When San Antonio shows up together, those individual acts add up to something much bigger.
The San Antonio Food Bank is a nonprofit that provides food to more than 600 local groups across Southwest Texas. They also offer programs to help families not just get through a tough time but become more secure and independent in the long run.
