KSAT Flavor Favs: Nama Ramen

Ramen soup growing in popularity in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – What has become a staple in other parts of the country is slowly growing in popularity here in San Antonio. For the last week of National Soup Month, we decided to try out a local ramen spot.

One of the first places to offer authentic style ramen in San Antonio is Nama Ramen located at 6565 Babcock Road.

Working for almost nine years making sushi at other places in town, Kevin Chu decided it was time to open his own place.

Nama Ramen carries a full line of sushi with a wide variety of fish. The restaurant is one of the only places serving live sea urchins out of Santa Barbara.

But it's the ramen that has become the go-to dish for customers.

"The ramen was kind of a side thought, and it just blew up a whole lot more that we ever anticipated," Chu said.

A traditional bowl takes more than a day to make.

"It's going to be a 36-hour broth, so we start with our pork bone," Chu said.

Nama Ramen is bringing a lot of new items to the Alamo City, but for Chu, it's all about keeping the customers happy.

"Everything that we do is fun. We don't take things too seriously, but at the same time, you're here for the food, and the food is going to speak volumes," Chu said.
