Friday Freebies for week of Aug. 8

SAN ANTONIO – If you'd like to do your back-to-school shopping solo -- without the kids -- we have a few ideas on where to drop them off for a bit, plus something the whole family can do this weekend.

Something for the teens to enjoy this weekend: the Central Library is putting on "Game Fest" on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Teens can enjoy free pizza, board games, video games and live music by the group Take Note. They can also jam out on electric guitars and keyboards. It's happening at the Central Library auditiorium on Soledad Street.

For the younger set, you can still register your child for Microsoft's Youthspark summer camps. The stores are broken up into age groups from 8-10 and 11-13. Kids can learn photo skills, game coding, game designing and computer coding skills. Just register on the Microsoft store's website, where you can see the schedule of classes.

Don't forget, there's still free bowling available. All you have to do is go to KidsBowlFree.com to register your child for two free games of bowling. A few in our area where you can use the deal: the Bandera Bowling Center, Astro Super Bowl and Oak Hills Lanes. In San Marcos, you can bowl free at Sunset Bowling Lanes.
