Photos of moldy sippy cups concern parents

Facebook post starts worldwide outrage

The cause of an infant's illness could be right under their nose.

Moldy sippy cups have become a worldwide concern after a Canadian woman posted images from inside of a rotten-looking cup used by the child of a friend.

Marie-Pier S. L'Hostie posted the pictures after her friend broke the anti-leakage component of his son's Tommee Tippee sippy cup.

The friend had been wondering why his son was continually sick.

What the man found inside was enough to make a stomach turn.

Mold had grown throughout the cup's device, something a parent wouldn't see unless they cracked it open.

Soon, others started opening their own child's cups and posted pictures showing the same moldy conditions.

Huffington Post featured a post from Penny Powell, who had compiled pictures from parents shocked to find mold inside a section of the cup that they claim is unwashable.

The Tommee Tippee company took to Facebook to respond to the complaints, suggesting that those who own the cups may not be cleaning them in the proper way.  Included was a diagram on how to properly wash the product.

BuzzFeed reported that the company's response only led to more parents sending in pictures of moldy sippy cups.

"We want everyone to be happy with our products and we always want to exceed expectations." the company said in a statement released late Thursday. "We've therefore listened to our customers, and will be launching a new Sippee cup in the next few months."
