2 people honored for helping bring stroke centers to San Antonio

Suzanne Hildebrand, Dr. Ronald Stewart, KSAT helped make it happen

SAN ANTONIO – KSAT stories were instrumental in getting the city to finally set up stroke centers. On Thursday night, two of the people who helped KSAT do that were honored.

Suzanne Hildebrand and her husband, Ray, let KSAT follow him through his rehab after he had a stroke and had to be airlifted to Austin to get emergency stroke care.

San Antonio had no stroke centers at the time. She and Dr. Ronald Stewart, along with KSAT, helped make it happen.

Stewart, a trauma surgeon at University Hospital, would have a stroke a few years later in 2011, and the stroke centers here likely saved his life.

Suzanne Hildebrand was presented with the Medical Miracles Champion Award during the 12th annual Medical Miracles Gala.
