SA hosts 40th annual Breast Cancer Symposium

Experts from 90 countries in SA for meetings

SAN ANTONIO – Thousands of doctors and breast cancer researchers are in San Antonio this week for the 40th annual Breast Cancer Symposium.

The symposium is the largest meeting of its kind in the world and attracted experts from more than 90 countries.

Investigators from all over the scientific spectrum will learn from each other and translate new discoveries into better care for cancer patients.

"Doctors can take it back and treat their patients differently. Researchers can take the information and build on that research into their research. So it's extremely important to disemminate this information as widely as possible to encourage more research and to enable doctors to change their practice in patients," said Dr. Kent Osborne of the Baylor College Of Medicine.

The symposium will be held through Saturday at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

It's also a big boost for the local economy, generating about $19 million for the city.
