Thousands expected Saturday for 19th annual 'Race for the Cure'

VIA to offer park and ride service to Alamodome for event

SAN ANTONIO – The 19th annual Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure" will be held this Saturday, April 9, at the Alamodome and VIA Transit will offer park and ride services to the event. 

KSAT 12's Leslie Mouton has the special honor of emceeing the event.

Racers have until Saturday at 6 a.m. to register. The race begins at 8 a.m. Survivor, volunteer and vendor areas open at 6 a.m. and run until 10 a.m.

The money raised by the event stays in San Antonio and goes to breast cancer screening, treatment, and education for the underserved of Bexar County.

8:15 - 5K and Family Non-Competitive Walk
9:20 - Competitive Runner Award Ceremony
9:30 - Race Course Closes
9:45 - Closing Remarks

ARRIVE EARLY

If you are driving to the Alamodome, plan to arrive no later than 6:30 a.m. to allow plenty of time to park and enjoy vendor area. Allow ample time for possible traffic delays and parking entrance lines in the area due to the high volume of vehicles headed to the venue.

VIA PARK & RIDE

Locations:  Crossroads (151 Crossroads Blvd.) and Heroes Stadium (4799 Thousand Oaks Drive)

Pick-up/Drop-off times: First pick-up is at 6 a.m. at Park & Ride site(s). If you want to make the start of Race by 8 a.m., please make sure to be at Park & Ride locations before 7 a.m. After 7 a.m., VIA cannot guarantee that you will be at the start line for Race. Last pick-up from Park & Ride location to Race is 7:30 a.m. and the last pick-up after Race is 11 a.m.

Round-trip fares: $5 for Adults, $2.50 for Children ages 5-11 and free for Children 4 and under. Cash only please.

We'd like to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. Buses from the Crossroads location may experience delays.

RACE PREPARATION

Weather conditions are unpredictable and it may be hot and humid on Race morning.  Participants should arrive and remain properly hydrated and be prepared to run/walk 5K* (3.1 miles) on paved city streets.

RAIN OR SHINE

The Komen San Antonio Race for the Cure will occur rain or shine.  We reserve the right to cancel in extreme circumstances.  In the event, there will be no refunds; rather, your entry fee will be considered a donation to the Komen San Antonio Race for the Cure.

FOR YOUR SAFETY

For the safety of all participants, in-line skates and pets will not be allowed on the course.  Strollers, baby joggers and wagons are permitted, but you are asked to go to the back of the line for you and other participants safety.  Thank you for your cooperation.

VOLUNTEERS

New and returning volunteers are encouraged to get involved.  The first 600 volunteers to register will receive a T-shirt courtesy of Quilted Northern Ultra in appreciation for their efforts. T-shirt sizes are not guaranteed and parking is not included (lots, garages, and street parking are city managed and are subject to parking fees).

AWARDS

Awards will be presented in the 5K competitive race to: Top 3 Female, Top 3 Male, and Top 3 Breast Cancer Survivors. Link to listing of all timed runners available within one week after Race at www.komensanantonio.org.
