Father Fest aims to raise men's health awareness

Event at Alamo Beer Company event benefits Pints For Prostates campaign

SAN ANTONIO – The Alamo Beer Company on Sunday will host the third annual Father Fest that raises awareness to men's health.

The event, which features entertainment, food, beer and free blood tests, benefits Pints For Prostates, a campaign that uses the universal language of beer to reach men with an important health message.

The founder of the business, Eugene Simor, said his life changed after hosting the first Father Fest event.

"Right after the event, as it turned out, I was the guy that got prostate cancer," Simor said.

As the second Father Fest rolled around, Simor was already in full treatment.

"The blood test was the one that caught it for me. They didn't find anything during the standard exam that is the invasive part of things. There was a bump in my PSA level," Simor said.

According to the National Cancer Institute, it's estimated that there will be over 161,000 new cases of prostate cancer in the United States in 2017.

Simor is now cancer-free and hopes others get checked before it's too late.

"I was fortunate, some other folks aren't," Simor said.
