The Mays Family Foundation on Tuesday donated $30 million for cancer care in South Texas.
The announcement was at the Cancer Center, which will now be called the Mays Cancer Center at UT Health San Antonio.
Dr. Ruben Mesa, director of the Mays Cancer Center, said the gift will help recruit and maintain key faculty members and support top quality cancer care, research and new drug discovery.
The money will also help care for cancer patients in South Texas.
"It's really a transformative gift. It really endows for the future. Our ability to care for patients, as well as continue to do research to battle cancer now and into the future," he said.
The Mays Family have been long time supporters of the Cancer Center.
