Mental illness conference kicks off in SA

Pathways to Hope conference focuses on providing resources

SAN ANTONIO – Breaking the stigma associated with mental illness and providing resources are the focus of the Pathways to Hope conference that kicked off Friday in San Antonio.

About 2,000 people were expected to attend the two-day event at the Tobin Center, organizers said.

The conference is for anyone who is living with mental illness, family members who provide support, faith-based communities, health care professionals, social agencies and others who are affected by mental illness.

"Really, it's about building partnerships in the community," Pathways To Hope Executive Director Elizabeth Lutz said. "We have a lot of faith-based leaders here with us today, really engaging with the community-based organizations, city and county services. And this is really the opportunity for us to share information about programs (addressing) the issues around mental health, reduce stigma."

The event is presented by The Health Collaborative.
