The 2016 Head for the Cure 5K run/walk is being held Sept. 24 in downtown San Antonio in front of the KSAT 12 studios and Providence High School.

KSAT 12 is sponsoring the event, which is in its third year, in honor of late news director Jim Boyle.

Boyle led the newsroom for 29 years, the longest of any KSAT news director. He died in March 2014 after a battle with brain cancer.

The Head for the Cure event was created to raise money for cancer research with the hope of one day finding a cure.

Last year's race raised $115,000. The money was used to fund several organizations, including the nonprofit Jaxon's FROG Foundation.

The foundation uses the funds to organize fun and uplifting events for children with cancer.

Anyone interested in joining the Head for the Cure can do so until 8 a.m., when the race starts.

KSAT viewers can receive $7 off registration by registering with this promo code: KSATRUN (case sensitive).
