MIRAMAR, Fla. – Danisha Cotton cradled her healthy, 7-pound, 11-ounce baby on Monday after a delivery that was anything but standard.
"I was like, I think she's in my pants," Cotton said. "I had on pants, so I had to pull down my pants and she was laying there."
Her daughter, Rose-Lynn, certainly made an arrival, coming a week early and in the driveway at Memorial Hospital in Miramar, Florida.
"Patients don't deliver in the parking lot," nurse Anna Hoo said.
Hoo and other medical staff members rushed to help Cotton give birth.
"Me and my team, we ran downstairs and there they both were being wheeled in on the stretcher, (the) baby already out, coming through the front door," Hoo said.
Cotton was sitting in the back seat of a Nissan Altima, just feet away from the emergency room, when her 2-year-old daughter, Romiere Cotton, first saw the baby.
Cotton's mother and stepfather were in the front of the car at the time.
"When I looked and saw the smile on her face, I knew the baby was out," Cherisse Jackson said about her granddaughter. "Because she was just looking and smiling, and (Romiere) said, 'She's so pretty.'"
Cotton's children, Romiere and Ro-Zahriyah Brown, 4, were in awe to learn how babies arrive in the world.
"We had our whole plan out and, it's just, she wanted to be here," Jackson said.
Cotton said this birth experience was one she'll never forget.
"(I) gave birth to a baby in a car and I went through labor with no pain medication," Cotton said.
