City to offer free drop-off locations to recycle Christmas trees

Only real trees will be accepted

SAN ANTONIO – Looking for an eco-friendly way to repurpose your holiday tree?

The city of San Antonio is one of several communities in Texas that are setting up free drop-off locations in January for folks who want to recycle their Christmas trees. Only real trees will be accepted.

All the city asks is that people strip away all the lights and decorations and if the tree is more than six feet tall, cut it in half, if possible.

Last year, the program recycled about 6,000 Christmas trees into mulch. 

Listed below are the dates, time and sites that will accept trees:

Drop-off days: Jan. 7-8 and Jan. 14-15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rusty Lyons Sporst Center ... 6300 McCollough, San Antonio TX 78212.

Bitters Brush Recycling Center ... 1800 Wurzbach Parkway, San Antonio, 78207. This site will accept trees any day in January.

Southeast District Center ... 7402 S New Braunfels, San Antonio, 78223.

Southside Drop-Off Center ... 5450 Castroville Road, San Antonio, 78227.

Northeast District Center ... 1030 Tool Yard, San Antonio, 78223.

Northwest District Center ... 6802 Culebra Road, San Antonio, 78238.

Nelson Gardens ... 8967 Delson Road, San Antonio, 78252. This site will accept trees any day in January.

Eisenhower Park ... 19399 NW Military Highway, San Antonio, 78257.

Stone Oak Park ... 29395 Stone Oak Parkway, San Antonio, 78258.

Starting Jan. 17, free mulch will be available only at the Bitters and Nelson Gardens sites, while supplies last.
