What was supposed to be a fun senior class trip to Dominican Republic turned into a nightmare for a group of Oklahoma high school graduates and their chaperones.

Seven people on the trip say they got violently ill on the second day of the vacation after eating at a Japanese restaurant and had to be rushed to a hospital.

The senior class trip consisted of 70 students and parents from Deer Creek High School in Oklahoma. They were staying at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

No one knows what triggered the mystery illness, but it comes as several other Americans took ill or died on vacation in Dominican Republic within the last year.

Those sick on the class trip recovered well enough to stay for the duration of the vacation before flying back to Oklahoma.

In a statement, the Hard Rock said it took "corrective action" and expressed regret that "we did not achieve the extremely high standards we set for ourselves."
