An Instagram poll reportedly led to a Malaysian teen’s death after she asked her followers on the platform whether she should kill herself.

The 16-year-old, who has not been officially identified, took to the site Monday afternoon with a poll saying, “Really Important, Help Me Choose D/L," Reuters reported.

Later that day, she jumped to her death from a roof, and police now believe “D/L” meant “Death/Life,” according to Reuters.

District Police Chief Aidil Bolhassan told the news outlet that 69% of people who had answered the question had chosen “D.”

"We are conducting a post-mortem to determine whether there were other factors in her death," Bolhassan said.

The teen reportedly had a history of depression, NBC News reported.

Officials are now questioning whether those who voted on the poll for “D” could be held responsible.

"Would the girl still be alive today if the majority of netizens on her Instagram account discouraged her from taking her own life?" Ramkarpal Singh, a lawyer and member of Malaysia's Parliament, told Reuters.

“Would she have heeded the advice of netizens to seek professional help had they done so?"

In February, Instagram banned images of self-harm.
