Man charged after admitting to killing 8 of them

Edmund Cunningham

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WLWT) -- Neighbors are stunned a man on their street was arrested after nine cats and kittens were found dead inside his freezer.

"It's scary. It kind of makes you wonder what was going on really," said neighbor Kim Littrell.

Middletown Police went to Edmund Cunningham's home after they got a complaint he was hurting cats and kittens. Officers found nine of the animals dead in Cunningham's freezer. Police said he admitted he killed eight of them.

He was charged with eight counts of cruelty to a companion animal.

Littrell said she used to see kittens outside, but not anymore.

"Every day when I would put food out, they would come, but I hadn't seen them in a while and I don't know what happened to them, so I kind of just thought that was really weird that they just disappeared."

Kim Littrell/Neighbor:

To think somebody is killing them and putting them in their freezer, that's horrible.
