2 men arrested in shooting at SE Side apartment complex

Man wounded in shooting at Reserve at Pecan Valley Apartments

SAN ANTONIO – A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with a triple shooting Monday night.

Jodeci Clayton was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said Clayton was with a group of men who shot Raymond Lewis, 35, in the back around 10 p.m. at the Reserve at Pecan Valley Apartments on East Southcross near Southside Lions Park. The shooting was triggered after Lewis broke up a fight between two girls, police said.

Witnesses said one of the girls came back with three men as reinforcements. Seconds later, gunfire erupted, police said.

Lewis was wounded twice in the back.

Kim Spriggs, an apartment resident, said Lewis was her neighbor who lived upstairs.

Spriggs said she and her daughter tried to help Lewis to his apartment while he was bleeding on their front porch.

"We're holding pressure on him to try and stop the bleeding," Spriggs said. She said her husband cared for the man before an ambulance arrived to transport him to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition. "This whole area was a crime scene," Spriggs said.

Spriggs' daughter, Taylor, said violence is a part of life at the complex.

"Shootings are [a] pretty normal thing around here," she said. "It was just a little, hit a little close to home, because it was right here in our front door. Most of the time they happen in the back."

Kim said she saw about ten people running back and forth on her walkway with guns.

"This is not how I want my evenings to go," she said.

Clayton and another man were dropped off at Northeast Baptist Hospital with gunshot wounds and were transferred to University Hospital.

The other man was charged with aggravated assault by proxy, police said.
