Project creates 80% floodplain reduction, part of larger flood control program

SAN ANTONIO – A multimillion-dollar flood control project that brings 160 homes and six roadway crossings out of the floodplain is finally complete in Kirby.

The project is part of a 10-year plan called the Bexar County Flood Control Program.

“It really made a big difference in controlling flooding here,” Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff said. “Overall, though, with the 10-year plan, the $500 million that we’ve done, over some 30 projects have been completed.”

Other projects in the program include the HALT system, a warning system for low water crossings, and other drainage projects throughout the county.
