2 arrested after chase in stolen taxi

Man, woman carjack taxi driver

SAN ANTONIO – A man and woman were arrested Saturday night after allegedly carjacking a taxi driver and leading police on a chase.

The taxi driver told police he picked up the couple around 11 p.m. When they began acting suspicious he called his employer for permission to offer them a ride anywhere, free of charge.

Moments later, police said, the couple pulled a knife on the driver. The driver pulled into the Chuy's Mexican Restaurant parking lot on Interstate 10 and Loop 1604, where there was a struggle, and the driver sustained cuts to his hands, police said. The couple reportedly kicked the driver out of the vehicle and drove away in it.

A police helicopter nearby spotted the suspects nearby. Once the suspects started speeding, officers in patrol cars stopped chasing them. The suspects eventually stopped when they crashed into another car in the 19000 block of Bulverde Road. The occupants of the other vehicle were not hurt.

The taxi driver was sent to the hospital, and is expected to recover.

The suspects were arrested, but details on what charges they face have not been released.
