2 arrested in high-speed chase; Taser used on suspect

Rudolfo Alderete, Kimberly Jaramillo arrested

SAN ANTONIO – Two people were arrested late Wednesday night following a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle.

Bexar County Sheriff's spokesman James Keith said the chase began around 11 p.m. after the driver of a pickup truck refused to stop following a traffic violation on the southbound access road of Interstate 35 and Shepherd Road.

"The driver then led deputies throughout the county at speeds roughly 90 mph," Keith said.

Rudolfo Alderete, 41, sped off to Loop 410 near West Military, where a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter offered aerial help in tracking him, Keith said.

"We were very fortunate that we had the assistance of a DPS helicopter. They were able to provide us guidance from the sky, because once the driver made it into downtown, he turned off his lights," Keith said.

After a 25-minute pursuit, Alderete drove downtown, where he stopped in the main lanes of Interstate 10 West near Colorado Street. Three passengers jumped out of the pickup, Keith said.

Alderete ran across several lanes of traffic and headed up the embankment into a neighborhood, Keith said.

The DPS helicopter helped track him to Lombrano near Trinity Street, where Alderete was taken into custody after being bit by a dog.

Alderete was treated for the bite and was arrested. He was booked on evading arrest and vehicle theft charges. He was also wanted on a parole violation.

"They were able to stop one of the passengers -- a woman who was running across multiple lanes," Keith said.

A deputy was forced to use a Taser on Kimberly Jaramillo, 29, when she tried to climb over a concrete wall, Keith said.

Jaramillo was taken into custody. She was wanted on a felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance and faces a charge of evading arrest.
