2 killed, 2 arrested in shooting outside sports bar

Police arrest one man for capital murder, another on weapons charge

SAN ANTONIO – Two men died and two others were arrested after gunshots were fired outside a Southeast Side sports bar early Saturday morning.

According to San Antonio police, the fight started around 2:30 a.m. at the bar in the 2000 block of Southeast Military Drive when someone threw a punch.

Police said the fight continued outside the bar, and one man pulled out a gun and shot both victims.

One man died from a gunshot wound to the head and the other died from wounds to the head, shoulder and arm.

Police said they tracked the alleged shooter to a house in the 200 block of East Dullnig Court and arrested him after a brief chase.

He was identified by SAPD as 44-year-old Santiago Hernandez. Police said Hernandez is charged with capital murder.

"The suspect fled the scene but we were able to get a good description of the vehicle that the suspect was driving and that led us to a location," said Ofc. Doug Greene with SAPD.

Officers also arrested another man a few blocks away carrying two weapons in a backpack.

He was identified as 23 year-old Dillion Soto. Police said Soto faces charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon and evading arrest.

Police have not released the names of the victims.

SAPD investigators indicated the shooting did not appear to be random.

"This appeared to be the suspect knew what he was doing, knew who he was targeting and unfortunately led up to the shooting deaths of the two victims," Ofc. Greene said.

Hernandez has a criminal record dating back more than 25 years. He was most recently in trouble on New Year's Eve in 2006 when SAPD arrested Hernandez for assaulting a public servant. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to two years probation.

In the late 1980's, police arrested Hernandez on a vehicle theft charge. The court sentenced Hernandez to four years shock probation. Hernandez has been arrested for minor offenses as well.
