Police: Suspect used pepper spray during robberies
Michael Gonzalez charged with robbery in two separate cases
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police arrested a robbery suspect who they say used pepper spray on victims.
Michael Gonzalez, 32, faces robbery charges in connection with two cases that began as shoplifting incidents.
According to an affidavit, police said they were called Jan. 10 to a CVS Pharmacy on Fredericksburg Road where an employee told them he had been hit in the face by pepper spray.
The worker said he noticed a man stuffing items into his jacket and attempted to leave the store, the affidavit stated.
The worker said when he followed the man outside and confronted him, he was sprayed with the pepper spray, the affidavit stated. The suspect got into a car and drove away.
A person who knows Gonzalez helped police identify him as the suspect in the attack, the affidavit stated
Detectives began looking through their files and realized there was at least one other similar case recently.
Gonzalez was booked into the Bexar County Jail with bonds totaling $40,000, the affidavit stated.
