Legislature, courts to blame for redistricting mess

SAN ANTONIO – There's been a lot of talk lately about redistricting.

It's nothing new that Texas politics can be messy and partisan.

Our Legislature is supposed to ensure that we're represented fairly in accordance with the federal Voting Rights Act.

Instead, as district lines get drawn and redrawn, legislators and courts seem to think we have unlimited time and tax dollars.

Texas may have to spend as much as $14 million to fund two primaries instead of one. That's not including the hundreds of thousands counties might have to fund.

Two primaries will also likely decrease an already low voter turnout.

Our elected officials have a responsibility to taxpayers and voters, and they need to take it more seriously and be responsible with our tax dollars.

State and federal courts have been at this for months, and it should have been solved by now.

It's time we saw a resolution so legislators can get to work on the real issues impacting texans.

Let us know what you think.
