SAN ANTONIO – Severe weather whipped through South Texas Monday evening with the worst of the damage reported in Southwest Bexar County and Medina County.
The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down around 8 p.m. in Devine. KSAT received several reports of damaged homes and injuries across Devine and Natalia.
As of 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Medina County officials said 20-25 homes were damaged and at least five people were injured. There were no reported deaths.
Medina County officials have asked that people who are not conducting business in Devine and other affected storm areas stay away because the area is considered to be dangerous due to downed power lines and debris on the roads.
The American Red Cross opened a shelter for residents at the Community Center in Devine located in the 200 block of East Hondo Avenue.
Nine families sought help early Tuesday morning at the shelter. All have since left to go back to their homes and see what's left.
The others who were displaced are with family and friends. The shelter will stay open until further notice in case more people show up needing help. Medina County was assisted by a number of different agencies, including other counties, Border Patrol, DPS.
In SW Bexar County, Interim Fire Marshal Craig Roberts reported a number of heavily damaged homes and at least five injuries plus one person reported missing. Roberts said none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Tornado warnings across the San Antonio area were canceled around 11 p.m. after two tornadic super cells in the western part of the viewing area dissipated.

The cells brought exceptionally heavy rain, hail and lightning strikes. Damaging winds upwards of 60 mph had also been reported in conjunction with the storm system.
A family in a home in the 14100 block of Ladd Road, in Southwest Bexar County, said they rode out the tornado in a concrete bathroom. The family said their home is a total loss.
Power was also reported out in many areas across San Antonio as the severe weather brought in heavy rain Tuesday morning. For a live map of outages in the area, visit CPS Energy's website.
Storms move across Texas
Mason County and Llano County about 100 miles northwest of San Antonio were also under a tornado warning. Mason County Sheriff James Nixon says no injuries have been reported.
In Dallas-Fort Worth, storms flooded roads and delayed flights. Other parts of Texas saw several inches of rain.
Parts of North, East and South Texas remained under a tornado watch late Monday.
Other areas were warned about flash flooding through much of Tuesday.
