Traffic nightmare expected on Hwy. 281, Loop 1604
Northbound lanes of 281 at Rhapsody to close over weekend; Same for 1604/281 intersection
Traffic around at the intersection of Loop 1604 and Highway 281 will be painful this weekend as parts of the intersection are shut down to continue construction of the connectors.
Starting Friday at 10 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m., the frontage lanes of 1604 East, from Trail Crest to Highway 281, will be closed.
Traffic will be detoured to the main lanes of 1604.
Also Friday at 10 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m., the east-bound right lane of 1604 will close from Gold Canyon to Redland.
And on Saturday from at 8 a.m. until Monday at 5 a.m., the southbound lanes of 281 will close from 1604 to Donella.
Traffic will move to the frontage roads -- but twice during the day Saturday, between 10 a.m. and noon and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for an hour, the frontage road will also close so that four, 100-foot-long steel beams can be hoisted into place.
"We've got to pick those up and move them across the frontage road put them into place," said Leroy Alloway, with Alamo RMA. "For the safety of the driving public (and the) safety of our crews, we don't want active traffic moving under these beams being lifted."
During that time, drivers will need to find another way to go.
Highway 281 to close at Rhapsody
The Texas Department of Transportation is planning at traffic closure this weekend at Highway 281 at Rhapsody to repair a bridge.
Crews will close all northbound lanes of US 281 at Rhapsody from Saturday at 8 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m.
All main lane traffic will need to exit at Nakoma, and the entrance ramp to northbound 281 from Isom Road will be closed.
Drivers on Isom Road will need to travel north to Sandau Road and turn right onto the US 281 northbound frontage road.
During that time the left lane of southbound US 281 from Bitters to Loop 410 will also be closed. All closures are weather permitting.
