Editorial: CPS rates good for SA pocketbooks

SAN ANTONIO – CPS Energy announced it won't increase rates until January, and even then it should be less than the last increase in 2010.

That's great news as rising temperatures have air conditioners kicking on all over town.

We've always known our energy rates are lower than most. CPS customers pay about 20 percent less than the state and national average.

We commend CPS for managing things so efficiently that rates don't have to keep going up as a matter of course.

Now, we hope they also keep an eye on the long-term.

CPS has long prided itself on managing a diverse number of resources that keep energy costs low.

As they continue to invest in natural gas and solar options, we hope they also continue to be good for the environment as well as our pocketbooks.
