American Idol hopefuls audition in SA

Thousands wait at Alamodome for chance at stardom

SAN ANTONIO – American Idol is holding auditions in San Antonio on Thursday, and thousands of singers showed up at the Alamodome hoping for the same thing.

"I want to be the next American Idol, and it's always been a dream of mine," Laura Jean Baduino said.

She traveled from the Woodlands, and she hopes San Antonio is just the first stop on her trip to the top.

"There's great talent out here, there actually is. You hear some people singing back (and) there there's a lot of great talent, and that's a good thing. Nothing to be pressured about," Armando Ramirez said.

He's not feeling pressure, because he's confident he has the voice the judges are looking for.

But show producers say they're not even sure exactly what they're looking for, but they say they know it when they see it.

"We like to call it lightning in a bottle. That's basically what it kind of comes down to," American Idol producer Patrick Lynn said.
