An arrest affidavit stated police received a call Tuesday about a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander that was parked at a gas station near Interstate 35 and Weidner Road.
Officers said they also had received a tip that Critchley was the person driving the vehicle.
Undercover detectives set up surveillance and later saw a man, who they identified as Critchley, climb into the vehicle and drive off, the affidavit stated.
Police tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the car sped off, the affidavit stated.
Detectives said they did not give chase because it would have been too dangerous.
Critchley is charged with theft of a vehicle and evading arrest.
