Arrest made in designer purse shoplifting case

Vanessa Ojeda, 25, charged with theft

SAN ANTONIO – Police have arrested a woman who they believe ran from the scene of a crime, a shoplifting involving more than $7,200 worth of designer purses.

Vanessa Ojeda, 25, was charged in connection with the case after police received a tip about her through their Crime Stoppers line, an arrest affidavit stated.

Investigators believe Ojeda and an unidentified man entered Saks Fifth Avenue at North Star Mall on April 5 and walked out with more than $7,200 worth of Burberrry purses without paying for them.

Police said they aired surveillance video from a separate robbery during a Crime Stopper segment on local TV stations and received several tips identifying Ojeda as the woman wanted in that case.

A caller told them she also was the person behind the shoplifting at Saks Fifth Avenue, the affidavit stated. When they interviewed Ojeda, police said she denied any involvement in the crimes.
