SAPD: Drunk man abducts baby, leads police on chase
Suspect arrested, expected to face several charges
SAN ANTONIO – Police arrested a man accused of abducting a child and leading authorities on a chase early Wednesday morning.
Investigators said the mother of a 7-month-old child called police around 12:30 a.m. to report her baby had been taken by the suspect who fled the scene.
While SAPD officers were speaking to the mother, a Bexar County sheriff's deputy spotted the suspect's car near San Pedro and Interstate 35 and a short chase ensued.
The suspect led authorities to Hickman and N Flores streets and surrendered. Officers took the man into custody and said the baby was not in a car seat, but did not appear to be injured.
Investigators said the suspect was driving while intoxicated. He is expected to face charges of child endangerment, numerous traffic violations and DWI.
Police have not said whether the suspect was the child's father. His name has not been released.
