SAN ANTONIO – The child who was killed in a crash on southbound Highway 281 Monday morning has been identified.

Police said Justin Kalak, 7, died from injuries sustained in the wreck, which occurred just after 10 a.m. on Highway 281 near Thousand Oaks, on the city's north side.

Another child, 5-year-old Julianne Kalak, was taken by EMS to University Hospital for treatment. Her condition on Tuesday was unavailable.

A man, identified as 43-year-old Ramon Alvarado Jr., was taken by Airlife to an area hospital in critical condition.

Police said the SUV that the children were riding in slammed into an 18-wheeler, driven by Alvarado, that had stalled out on the highway.

According to the accident report, the truck had been on the side of the road for about 10 minutes and hadn't put reflective triangles out yet.

Police have not indicated whether anyone will be charged in connection with the crash.

Southbound lanes of the highway were closed for more than an hour while the wreck was cleared.
