Duncan re-signs with Spurs

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday announced that forward Tim Duncan has re-signed with the team. Per club policy terms of the contract were not announced.

"Tim Duncan has established himself as one of the best players in NBA history," said Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. "His impact on the Spurs organization and the city of San Antonio can't be measured. We are all grateful for the leadership and dedication Tim has shown to the Spurs franchise. He is an unselfish superstar who loves to compete and has only one goal when he steps on the court – to do whatever it takes to help his team win. We are all thrilled that he'll spend his entire career as a San Antonio Spur."

The 6-11 Duncan was selected by San Antonio with the first pick in the 1997 NBA Draft. In his 15 seasons, Duncan has led the Spurs to nine division titles and the playoffs every year, including four NBA Championships. Over the 15-year span San Antonio has posted an 830-352 regular season record, giving the team a winning percentage of .702, which is the best winning percentage in all of professional sports over that span and the best winning percentage over any 15-year span in NBA history.

The 36-year-old Duncan has captured the NBA's MVP Award two times (2002 and 2003) and has earned NBA Finals MVP honors three times (1999, 2003, 2005). He is the only player in NBA history to be named to both an All-NBA Team and an All-Defensive Team in each of his first 13 seasons. The 1998 Rookie of the Year, Duncan has been an NBA All-Star 13 times and has been named the NBA Player of the Week 20 times over the course of his career.

In 1,111 regular season games Duncan has averaged 20.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.22 blocks in 35.4 minutes. He is the Spurs all-time leader in games played (1,111), points (22,258), field goals made (8,717) and attempted (17,192) and rebounds (12,533). He ranks second in blocks (2,469), fourth in assists (3,428) and sixth in steals (822). Among active players he ranks eighth in games played, sixth in points, second in rebounds and first in blocks (2,469).

Duncan has appeared in 190 playoff games, averaging 22.8 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.54 blocks in 33.1 minutes. In postseason action, among active players, he ranks third in games played, second in playoff points (4,233), first in rebounds (2,308) and in blocks (482), and eighth in assists (642).
