Priest killed in I-37 crash

SAN ANTONIO – A priest from the Corpus Christi area died in a late night crash on Interstate 37.

It happened on I-37 near Pleasanton about 10 p.m. Monday.

DPS said the driver of an 18-wheeler lost control and veered off the road, starting a chain reaction crash.

"He was either fatigued or asleep, drifted off the roadway to the right, entered the side brushy shoulder, came back on the roadway," said Trooper Cody Wallace. "When the vehicle entered the roadway, it turned over on its right side."

Two priests from Robstown were traveling back home when they ran into the overturned 18-wheeler near the Cambellton Exit.

Edward Jordan, the driver, died at the scene. The passenger was listed in stable condition. His name was not immediately released.

The driver of the 18-wheeler suffered minor injuries and is expected to recover.
