Mother wants answers after son gunned down
Investigators asking for help finding Michael Saggese's killer
SAN ANTONIO – A grieving mother asked for help Wednesday night in finding the person or persons who shot and killed her 28-year-old at his apartment more than a month ago.
Police said Michael Saggese was found bleeding in the doorway of his home in the 5400 block of West Military Drive.
"It's just so hard for me," said Maria Castro, Saggese's mother. "A month has gone by and it's just hard. I still can't believe it. I can't sleep at night just thinking why they did this to him."
Castro said she's heart-broken, knowing that she will never see her son again and that this last month has been extremely difficult for her, Michael's two brothers and sister, and his four children.
However, what's even more devastating, she said, is that she doesn't know what went wrong.
"I don't have the slightest idea what was the cause of it," she said. "Nobody tells me anything. Nobody tells me nothing. Nobody knows nothing."
Police said Saggese was a member of the Orejon prison gang, but Castro said her son has had nothing to do with that gang since he got out of prison two years ago.
"I just want somebody to come forward to tell me, just to say something, who did it, why they did it," said Castro. "My son wasn't a bad boy."
Investigators told Castro that they know someone knocked on Saggese's door at his apartment and when he opened it, he was shot and killed.
Saggese's cousin, who was at the apartment at the time, told police he heard the shots, but didn't see it happen.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP.
