SAN ANTONIO – Jury deliberations are set for Thursday morning in the trial of Tiffany James, 20, who is accused in the stabbing death of her boyfriend a father of her son.
Antwan Wolford, 18, was stabbed to death during what witnesses said was a violent argument between the couple at James' home on Nov. 20, 2009.
He was 15 years old at the time. James was 14 and had recently given birth to the couple's child.
An expert witness in the field of human development testified for the defense on Wednesday.
Dr. Wanda Draper said James and Wolford were involved in a "young and immature relationship."
After interviewing James, Draper said it appeared the stabbing was an act of self-defense.
"But just because she protected herself from him killing her or hurting her severely doesn't mean she didn't love him," Draper testified.
James' behavior following the stabbing reinforced that, Draper said.
"After she killed him, I think that she began, very soon after that, to mourn his death," she testified.
If James is found guilty, the punishment range she is facing is from five to 99 years to life in prison.
