CR: Netflix most-used video streaming service

Poll shows Vudu preferred for selection

More people watch movies from the comfort of their couch, than go to the theater, according to a Consumer Reports poll of its readers.

And and growing number of people are streaming video from the Internet to their TV, computer or mobile device.

Netflix was by far the most used video streaming service, with more than 80 percent of those polled saying they used in in the past month.

However, while Netflix was praised for convenience, the biggest gripe was selections, especially new releases.   Those polled had the same complaint about other subscription services like Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus.

For better selection, people preferred pay-per-view services that charge for each title. The best, in order of rankings, Vudu, iTunes and Amazon Instant Video.

For free content, people liked Hulu.com. It lets you stream movies and TV shows, but only on a computer.  To watch on a TV or iPad, you have to subscribe to Hulu Plus, which costs $7.99 a month, same at Netflix.

The poll found plenty of people still like to rent disks.  Netflix was one of the best for disk selection. Redbox was popular for cheap rentals.
