SAN ANTONIO – A man was killed and a woman was injured during a shootout involving a San Antonio police officer on the West Side.
Chief William McManus said the officer, who was on duty, received a call from a female friend around 2 a.m. Friday.
The friend, Abigail Hernandez, was at a nightclub and told the officer her ex-boyfriend, Alfredo Hector Aragon, was threatening her and she feared for her life.
McManus said the officer picked up the woman at the club and drove to her apartment complex on Micron.
"He picks her up, goes to take her home. The boyfriend's waiting at the house or at the apartment. They try to escape (and) he opens fire," McManus said.
The officer fled the apartment complex with Hernandez.
However, according to McManus, the officer ended up shooting and killing Aragon at Aragon's home on Field Wood near Culebra.
"How they got back here, why they got back here, we're not sure just yet," McManus said.
He added that shots may have been fired at three different locations.
During the incident, Hernandez was reportedly shot twice. She was taken to University Hospital and was expected to recover.
The name of the officer involved in the shooting has not been released.
McManus said investigators are still trying to sort out several details.
Neighbors said Aragon was a good neighbor, caused no trouble, and was focused mainly on raising his three daughters. He was the owner of Alamo Computer Solutions, an IT company. He has a short criminal record with no recorded violent crimes.
