Woman killed in hit-and-run on I-35 near Somerset Road

Victim identified as Hortencia Esquivel

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are looking for information about the driver who hit and killed a 27-year-old woman along a South Side highway.

Relatives found the body of the woman, whom they identified as Hortencia Esquivel, lying on the access road of Interstate 35 South just north of Somerset Road.

According to police, family members had reported her missing late Thursday night, saying she had walked away from a nearby restaurant.

"She had some sort of argument with a relative and decided to walk home," said Sgt. Javier Salazar, a spokesman for SAPD. "We believe she was hit some time between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m."

A woman at the scene, who identified herself as Esquivel's sister, said she and other relatives decided to look for the missing woman on their own. She said they came upon her body sometime after 5 a.m.

The woman said Esquivel had been at a nearby Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar with the father of her child when she decided to walk home on her own. She said Esquivel lived only a few miles from where her body was found.

Police are asking anyone with information about the fatal crash to call Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867).
