One killed in fiery crash on I-10
Accident shut down highway for hours
SAN ANTONIO – A tow truck driver was hit and killed by the driver of a big rig early Friday evening.
A Bexar County Sheriff's Department deputy said the driver of the rig hit the tow truck, then the driver and a pickup. The rig caught fire and the driver managed to steer into the median, where he escaped just before the rig was engulfed in flames.
A deputy said the driver of the tow truck was changing a tire on the pickup. It had parked on the side of I-10 East at Trainer Hale Road.
Investigators aren't sure why the big rig driver did not see the tow truck or its driver.
The fiery crash forced deputies to close that part of I-10 for at least three hours while they worked to clean up the scene.
