EXCLUSIVE: McManus wants threatening caller to surrender

McManus: 'This is no game'

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said he is asking the man who made threats against the San Antonio International Airport to turn himself in.

A man claiming to have placed bombs at the San Antonio International Airport on Wednesday contacted the KSAT 12 newsroom on Friday evening, saying he wanted to give his side of the story.

Chief McManus said that same man, who calls himself Raul Gonzalez, also contacted him Thursday making the same claims.

"There's certainly somebody who called," said McManus. "Whether that was the person who did it or not remains to be seen, but the bottom line of all this is that even though what that person did is a hoax. It's dangerous."

Because of the specific threats made, namely that three bombs were placed in cars in the lower parking garage, McManus said it warranted shutting down the entire airport for more than three hours while FBI, Homeland Security, TSA, San Antonio Police and fire officials investigated the claims.

McManus said at this point, they don't know if "Raul Gonzalez" is the same person who made the threat, but whoever it is, they want him to turn himself in.

"Whoever it is, we want it stopped," said McManus. "We would love to catch the guy. There are serious charges waiting for him. So, whoever's doing this needs to think about that. This is no game."

McManus said if anyone has any idea who this person might be, call the police department at 207-SAPD.
