Woman's body found in SA river

Passerby by saw woman floating near Mission Reach section of the river

SAN ANTONIO – Authorities recovered the body of a woman spotted by a passerby Sunday afternoon. It happened at Espada Park on the city's south side, where work is being done on the Mission Reach section of the San Antonio river.

Officials said someone reported seeing a person with longer hair floating in the water about 20 feet out. Firefighters attempted to retrieve the female with a ladder truck.

Detectives believe the victim is young and has been in the water for several days.. They are asking anyone who may have a family member or friend who's been missing for a couple of days to give them a call.

"Looks like the female is about 20 to 25-years of age, may be married and anyone that may be missing a loved one, especially after this weekend with the large amount of rain that we had, we'd appreciate them if they'd notify the SAPD's Missing Person's Unit," said SAPD Detective Ricky Lopez.

This portion of the river extension project is still under construction so the park is supposed to be closed off to the public. But Sunday night, KSAT 12 has seen many people biking and hiking through the trail, which seems to have helped authorities find the woman because someone was able to spot her.
