Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of disease and death in our country; as a leader in health care in San Antonio, we want to build a healthy workforce; and we want to join other companies around the country in taking a stronger stand against this deadly addiction.
In 2010, we adopted a move to tobacco-free campuses across our system. This year, Baptist Health System has strengthened our commitment to a healthier work environment in another significant way. As of August 15, 2012, Baptist Health System implemented a new hiring policy. We no longer hire employees who test positive for nicotine. As health care providers, we need to set the example, which is reflected through our policies, our values and "health for life" mission.
