SA radio duo wins national award
KJ97 hosts Randy Carroll, Jamie Martin win Broadcast Award for Large Market Personality of the Year
SAN ANTONIO – A couple of familiar voices will be receiving an award at the Country Music Association Awards Thursday Night in Nashville.
Randy Carroll and Jamie Martin, the morning duo on San Antonio's country music station KJ97, will be awarded the prestigious Broadcast Award for Large Market Personality of the Year.
They got a call from co-host of the show, Brad Paisley, who told them they were winners.
"We thought the chances of us winning were not very good, but then to win, we just about fell over," Carroll said.
"(It's) the highlight of my radio career, for sure. Hands down, nothing can get bigger and better than this," Martin said.
Carroll has been with KJ for 29 years.
"People were joking I was the Susan Lucci of radio, " Carroll said.
The two will be announced during the live broadcast and that has both Carroll and Martin a little nervous about walking on stage. Martin said she even went with a lower heel on her shoes.
"I am not going to trip and fall. That would just be disastrous," Martin said, and added the presentation would be quick.
"Don't blink," she said.
"I just don't want to look to goofy. I don't want to be known as that, ‘Remember that goofy guy from San Antonio who won back in 2012?'" said Carroll.
Carroll and Martin have been together nearly five years.
