San Antonio police capture burglary suspect on roof of vacant HEB, second suspect jumps

Police: Evidence of break-in found at vacant HEB at Huebner and NW Military

SAN ANTONIO – A burglary suspect jumped from the rooftop of a vacant HEB at Huebner Road and NW Military Drive, while a second man had to be brought down by a fire department ladder truck Thursday morning, San Antonio police said.

Officers answered a call about a ringing alarm around 4 a.m. and found evidence that someone might have climbed onto the roof, according to Sgt. Richard Fischer.

When officers climbed up, they spotted two suspects who tried to run away, Sgt. Fischer said.

"One of them ran and either jumped or got too close to the edge, maybe misjudged," Fischer said.  "He came down causing himself some pretty extreme injuries."

Fischer said the injured suspect appeared to have compound fractures to his ankles and legs, as well as possible internal injuries.

He was taken to a hospital by ambulance. The second suspect was escorted down the ladder truck by officers, then handcuffed and placed into a patrol car.

Fischer said both men will likely face burglary or attempted burglary charges, depending on whether they actually made entry into the vacant store.
