Security guard brutally beaten outside Mexican restaurant on Somerset Road

San Antonio police: Cameras capture beating; Victim suffered broken teeth, jaw

SAN ANTONIO – A security guard was brutally beaten in the parking lot of a Mexican restaurant in the 7100 block of Somerset Road early Thursday morning, San Antonio police said.

The attack happened at the Taqueria Mexico around 1:15 a.m.

Police did not have a motive behind the beating, but said surveillance video shows a Ford F-150 pickup truck pull up to the restaurant and strike the security guard, identified as Jose Samual Fernandez, 68, knocking him to the ground.

Police said the video also shows a man jump out and kick the security guard, then hit him with what appears to be a pipe.

The man also appears to go through the security guard's pockets, San Antonio police said.

A restaurant employee who had left a vehicle in the parking lot returned around 2:30 a.m. to pick it up.

He discovered the security guard in his truck, San Antonio police said.

The employee called authorities, and the security guard was rushed to San Antonio Military Medical Center with a broken jaw, broken teeth, numerous cuts and bruises.

Police are attempting to identify the two men who were responsible for the attack. Anyone with information is asked to call San Antonio police.
