Former Playland Park site eyed as ACCD administration complex

Vice Chancellor says consolidation will increase efficiency

SAN ANTONIO – In 2008, the Alamo Community College District purchased a 22-acre piece of property that once was the site of Playland Park, a popular amusement attraction.

"We bought that land in 2008 specifically for the purpose of combining the administration building," said John Strybos, ACCD Assistant Vice Chancellor.

Strybos said district officials hope to build a mix-use complex on the property to consolidate administrative offices.

Several hundred employees currently work out of three district administrative buildings many miles apart.

"It increases efficiency, so it helps us save money," Strybos said.

In order to make the administrative expansion a reality, the district will need a partner.

"We have to have some sort of property partner who is willing to invest funds in developing other parts of the property that will serve them, as well as the parts that we will need," Strybos said.

Strybos said that an active search for a partner is expected to begin in mid-December.
