3 men arrested after robbery spree, shooting in Northeast San Antonio
3 suspects facing robbery, assault charges; chased to Skyline Boulevard
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police chased down three armed robbery suspects Monday evening after allegedly going on a mini-crime spree on the city's Northeast Side that included shooting a man for his cell phone.
San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar said patrol officers were involved in a short pursuit with the suspect's vehicle that ended when the driver turned down a dead end street.
"I don't believe it was a high speed chase but it went on for several blocks and they hit a dead end here that they didn't know was here but the officers did," Salazar said.
The chase ended in the 12000 Block of Skyline Boulevard, not far from where two armed robberies were committed.
Around 5 p.m. the suspects allegedly held up a man taking out his trash in the 16300 Block of Persimmon Well.
A few minutes later police got a call about a second hold up in the 14500 Block of Perpetual.
"On the first one they got an undetermined amount of cash. On the second one it appears they robbed him for a cell phone," Salazar said. "The gentleman was shot for a cell phone."
Officers believe the second victim was shot in the side as he tried to run away from the thieves. The victim was transported to the San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment.
In both cases witnesses were able to get a detailed description of the suspects and the car they were driving which helped officers quickly find them.
Salazar said both victims were in their front yards when they were attacked. Salazar urged everyone to keep their guard up even when you're at home.
"Go about your normal lives please, but just use caution," Salazar said. "Always be aware of your surroundings be aware of any vehicles that don't belong in your neighborhood and call it in if you see anything suspicious."
