Editorial: New sheriff has work cut out for her

There's a new sheriff in Bexar County, and she's got her work cut out for her.

Susan Pamerleau made history as the first female ever elected to the position, but that's not all that makes this a noteworthy win.

The single-largest item in the Bexar County budget is the Bexar County Jail, and the Sheriff's Office runs it.

She's inherited a messy situation, including a staffing crisis and budget cuts, and she has some work to do to set things straight.

But, as a retired Air Force General, Sheriff Pamerleau should know how to focus on a mission and get it done.

Her first priority is making sure all the deputies, detention officers, civilians and their families have resources they need.

We're confident she has what it takes to get this job done right.
